Flooding in northeastern Australia
Earth ViewRead out
Unusually heavy and prolonged rainfalls have led to severe flooding in northeastern Australia: The affected region in the state of Queensland is currently experiencing the worst flood since 1998. Due to the floods, the floodgates of the Ross Dam above the town of Townsville will be opened - about 2, 000 houses were flooded.
The water masses have not only caused power cuts and destroyed the belongings of many people. They also brought crocodiles and other wildlife into the residential areas. The authorities cautioned against taking care of these potentially dangerous visitors. A relaxation of the situation in the coming days, once not in sight. Meteorologists expect heavy rainfall again.
