Forest fire on Gran Canaria

A forest fire has been burning on the popular holiday island of Gran Canaria since the weekend. According to the Spanish newspaper El Pais, the fire that broke out on Saturday evening near the village of Valleseco has spread over an area of more than 3, 000 hectares. Around 5, 000 people have been brought to safety from the flames, according to authorities, an estimated 40 villages have been evacuated. Also a luxury hotel had to be ger umt.
According to media reports, the authorities suspect arson as the cause of the fire. It is already the second forest fire in the region within a very short time. Already last week, a devastating fire had to be controlled on the Canary Island, which burned about 1, 500 hectares of land.
